(c/o Jacob Antar, Co-Coordinator of "Historic Archives") TAKII 17 ~Densetsu~ started bright & early for the TAKII staff on June 14th, 2014. Hordes of TAKII attendees were all making their way to The Rotunda for yet another exciting fun filled weekend celebrating everything Asian. Vendors started to arrive as well; tables & chairs were quickly arranged inside of the venue with the power of TAKII's volunteers. The Moe Maid Café, making a return to The Asian Karaoke Idol Invitational (after their debut at TAKII 16 ~Cho-ho-ho-cobo~), kicked things off early with a sweet breakfast spread upstairs.

The Asian Karaoke Idol Invitational's 17th season kicked off (formally) like any other, complete with screenings of anime & other Asian related shows on the TAKII-tron HD projection screen. And even though Regional Rail for Saturday was suspended (due to a partial SEPTA strike), that didn't stop the festival faithful from arriving. By 11:00am on Day 1, we were already experiencing corwds & a line going through the entrance! The day proceeded with another seasonal dose of "Last Otaku Standing", much to everyone's delight. And before we knew it, it was 4:00pm & the "TAKII 17 Show" crowned its newest winner, Avery!

By around 6:00pm or so, it was time for our "Makenai: Fusion Charity Benefit Concert" & its opening act, The Asterplace (making their big return to The Asian Karaoke Idol Invitational with a new Chinese Fusion band, Mr. Cake, in tow). Both bands melted faces & exploded minds with the sound of their thunderous beats. Video Game Orchestra & Ani-On Live alum, Masato Itoh, also made his "Brand-New Debut" this season, winning over the audience with his classically-trained performances of popular gaming & anime theme songs (as later joined by D-chan, who sang "We Are!" (from One Piece)). The crowning moment of the "Makenai Concert" (& the festival), however, was a tribute to D-chan's late brother & father, Allen & John Christopher, featuring a video presentation & intro with his surviving family members on stage. At the end of the "Concert", D-chan's mom, Marilyn, was serenaded by TAKII 17 hostess, Anastasia Oxnuttz, Destiny, & Geneva in a lip sync & dance routine to her favorite RuPaul song, "Sissy That Walk". Day 1 ended with the longest "Ota-Rave" in fusion festival history, complete with glowsticks, bracelets, & the guest DJ stylings of Adam Tuttle (a local Rock musician).

Once dawn came, it was time to party all over again for Day 2. TAKII 17 attendees were treated to a series of "X-Treme X-Posé Panels" as delivered by Rose Rappaport, highlighting important old school anime titles & why you shouldn't feel bad about being an Asian culture fan. Fusion festival friends, the Manly Battleships, also made their returns & hosted some offerings from their "Gameshow Impossibru" library (SUCH CANDY, MANY "WOW"). "Cosplay Battle Royale" crowned 4 new winners, but it was "Cosplay Battle Royale ~Super Bowl~" (the 1st-ever cosplay-heavy football game to be played at an Asian festival/convention worldwide), played at Clark Park, that really stole the show! As TAKII 17 ~Densetsu~ weekend wound down, "Gaming Tourneys" in Wii's Super Smash Bros. Melee (& a Project M remix version) were truly off the chain (as were antics from our hostess, Anastasia Oxnuttz (doing a Bianca Del Rio game tribute) & an additional edition of our classic "Ota-Rave"). With how far we have come in such an epic season (& the plans that we have in store for the near & distant future), to say that we are all excited for more iterations of The Asian Karaoke Idol Invitational would be the understatement of the year (^_^)!
